Other areas that need consideration are the lubrication and cooling methods needed to safely operate an internal combustion engine because of the extreme amount of heat it produces. The constant lubrication of the pistons by the oil pump and the continual flow of water (coolant) through the jacket of the engine are both essential to prevent over heating. If either of these systems fail, you only have moments before overheating occurs and the engine is damaged or completely destroyed.
